I just recieved my phone bill from Cingular that includes the two weeks we spent on STX. They did NOT charge any roaming nor long distance fees, just like they said. Can't say the service here in the states is as good as Verizon, but am happy with the way it works there.

I think most of the cell comanies here are about par. Some have thier strenghts but for the most part I'm a happy Cingular customer too. Did someone say they charged roaming to St. Croix? Roaming from where?

Someone had posted a few months ago, that when they were visiting STX that they were charged roaming when they called back to the states. They said they had to fight with Cingular, but had won, to get the charges reversed.
I did NOT have any of those problems.

Living on STX with an Arkansas number - no problems so far! No roaming, no nothing...sometimes no service unless you stand on the front deck and face south! 🙂

Just have to interject something here as far as off-island cells are concerned.

YOU can call me locally and not be charged but, when you leave me your off-island cellphone number on my answering machine, then I'm stuck with paying the long-distance charge if I return your call.

Sorry, but that doesn't work for me and it doesn't work if I'm thinking about employing someone or whatever else and who leaves a message with a stateside prefix. This is an ongoing glitch which seems to work well for incoming newbies who want to MAKE calls and stay in touch with friends and family on the mainland, but it really doesn't put them in a good situation where anything local is concerned.

Just my two cents!

Agreed. But we know more people in the states right now 🙂

I think I heard that Ackley has a new internet based phone, but I don't know the specifics. Might be an answer for some. We can't get our landline to work because of the DSL, a problem Innovative isn't innovative enough to figure out. And no, it doesn't matter whether the DSL is plugged in or not...it just flat doesn't work.
