Please private message me if you are interested in taking action to keep the west end safe. The violence here is targeted, and unlike in c'sted, it seems to be directly targeted at non-gang-affiliated establishments and individuals. The VIPD, as well intentioned as they may be, are not (able? willing? directed?) to protect the folks who want to live on the west end, develop law-abiding communities on the west end, earn a living on the west end, and enjoy our lovely beaches and hangouts on the west end.

I felt a sense of "home" the moment my feet hit the ground here on STX. What we're going through right now is just as cataclysmic as a direct hit from a hurricane. Hovensa pulling out, mass exodus of high income earners, wapa rates ratcheting up from already exorbitant levels. If we want to keep this island as our home... we have to rise up as a community and protect ourselves and others who are still here holding our ground and believing in the reasons why each of us chose to live on this island in the first place.

So, again, if you are one of those folks who still believes in St. Croix and is concerned that the west end violence is shooting the island in it's proverbial foot, please message me. We're looking to expand a serious "think tank" outside the purview of politics, message board flamers, etc. If you are off island but feel invested in this idea, we will Skype you in.

Have you actually tried working with the VIPD? In many areas of STT they've been incredibly helpful assisting neighborhood groups set up crime watches with several of them not only working on the clock but off it and giving group participants their cell numbers and email addresses in case needed. You might look into it. I've been very impressed with them.
