yeah i did that, but alot of the inside links like contact us and discussion are dead and i'm actually looking for the preamble that has been written with all the peoples covered you know like the 'regardless of race, creed, color, sex ect... they left out sexual orientation which in this day and age needs to be included, now i know that one is an uphill battle but hey it needs to be included and not for me but for young locals,if they see that they are protected under law from discrimination it just might give them some sense of pride in who they are.

Bartender, I'll have what TRW is having.:D

That paragraph is asking for a whole lot. It would be nice to assume that some kind of equal protection under the law for all would be written in put I wouldn't hold your breath.

oh trust me, i'm not Captain, and then in one of the dailies they had part of the preamble about "greatful to almighty god" because thats what the MAJORITY of virgin islanders believe in,now correct me if i'm wrong please, but is not a constitution supposed to be for ALL of the people and not merely the majority.

As much as I hate to say. I think the entire exercise will be just like last time. A constituton is supposed to define or rights not take them away.

oh i doubt if the bit of nonsense they're writing will be passed by the voters, too many delegates with personal agendas, and not enough professionals with good common sense, way too many emotions in play here,it's like giving 1st graders too much responsibility, you know we all know they'll fail but it's kind of amusing to watch the posturing and rhetoric and the next time they try we can only hope there are responsible adults in charge.

I think that the Constitution is important to all of us. I agree that it is unlikely that the VI voters will approve a twisted constitution that is full of platitudes, racial limitations and special interest statements.

I encourage every voter in the VI to contact the delegates, by phone, letter and email and send a unified message that we want a simple and fair constitution. Tell them to stop posturing and leave their prejudice and anger at home. They need to hear that unless they write an acceptable constitution they are wasting their time and our money. The constitution WILL NOT BE PASSED BY THE VOTERs, if it contains items like "who is a Virgin Islander" and sets arbitrary citizenship tests.

I know that my rant will go unheard, but I am frustrated with the politics that prevent us from having a SIMPLE, clear document.

whats even more offensive is the fact that this past season we were paying 309 bucks a night per delegate to stay at a beach resort while they were here on STX when there is a perfectly acceptable gov owned hotel downtown

Your citing of Kill the Rabbit is a continuation of the use of Jam Band's lyrics in "Legal", to condone violence against Caucasians in the Virgin Islands. A group of ruffians used that refrain, which was actually lifted from a Bugs Bunny cartoon, as their rallying cry. However, that passage was never intended to be used that way, and by your bringing it up, you also bring up a sorry spot in Virgin Islands music history. The Jam Band has never advocated for the killing of anyone, (except for musically) in that song, as well as taking to task government inefficiency and feeling "sold out" on behalf of tourism. A listen to the actual song will indicate its true intent. I share this for educational purposes, and not to bash anyone.

Anita,
I understand Jam Band did not intend "Kill the Rabbit" to mean kill the white mon.I had a local musical artist explain that to me in 1989,
but, I guess it`s a educational point to bring up to those who do not.
Though, most all locals think it DOES mean kill the white man.
And as a white man, I`ve herd "kill the rabbit" to mean hatred towards the white population here many times & applied as so.
What I ment, by Bert Brian saying it, was how Many locals would take the saying Kill the rabbit"
And Adelbert Bryan supporters are such a group that would take it`s meaning as such.<Do you agree?
I think now you understand how I ment & suggested it`s usage.
And I`m not trying to argue or bash you either(although I love a good argument, I won`t lie!)

Thanks, DUN. Whomever co-opts the writings of others to twist to their own purposes, does a disservice to the original artists. Any "local" who uses the words in that way, does it to incite fear.

I hope to add balance to this discussion every time I hear it brought up. To be honest, I have only ever heard whites saying this. Locals seem to know the truth.

I'm reading the DN article now. WOW Bert Bryan is a bona fide LUNATIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I agree with you, trw, that Petersen is a voice of reason.

For those who are interested, read the article:

Petersen only needs about 10 more votes for his version to be accepted. hope.

I think Bryan's behavior had a negative effect on at least some of the delegates. Who does he speak for? He must throw a great fish fry!

I sure hope his version is accepted. It is just a damn shame how our tax dollars are being wasted by (a few) idiots who can't behave like adults.
