Headline: Construction Projects on St. Thomas to Affect Traffic Flow This Week

The VI Next Generation Network and the VI Water and Power Authority are currently conducting construction projects on the island of St. Thomas. This week, construction projects will affect the flow of traffic in the following areas:

Daily 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.:

- Trenching along the Nicholas Friday Highway (Route 32):

- Trenching from Nadir intersection (Route 30 and 32) and trenching towards East End Substation (Estate Nazareth).

- Aerial fiber and hardware installation along Frenchman’s Bay Road (Route 30) from Bovoni to Havensight and then Fortuna/Bordeaux.

- Traffic vaults installation will begin on Tuesday near John Brewer’s Beach and moving eastward towards VITEMA along Route 30, then along Mafolie Road, from Valdemar Drive (Route 40) to Mafolie Hotel.

Nightly from 7 p.m.

- Fiber optic pulling along Main Street into Harwood Highway (Route 308) and finally onto Route 304 near Nisky Center.

Nightly 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

- Excavation for an electrical duct bank in the parking area along Veteran’s Drive, from Foot Locker to Down Island Trader. This work will be mostly at night with limited day work between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

- Installation of a manhole to make connections to the Raadets Gade duct bank already installed. This work will be mostly at night with limited day work between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

- Ongoing terminations of high voltage cables and pad mount transformer installations at Dronnigens Gade, Hibiscus Alley, Store Tvaer Gade, Raadets Gade, Veteran’s Drive and A.H. Riise areas.

Pedestrian traffic will be unaffected in these areas. There will be limited or no vehicular traffic affected in this area. During excavation some parking spaces will be secured.

- Night work continues in alley ways on Raadets Gade with no obstructions. (Raadets Gade is open to all traffic.)

Motorists are urged to heed all traffic instructions given by work crew and to proceed cautiously when traveling near construction sites. Motorists are also advised to seek alternate routes to avoid traffic delays.
