Hi
I have lived on StJohn , but need to know if any one is a lic business contractor? is so can you tell me this
My boyfriend is from Jamacia and he has lived in the US for a long time , he has his own business here in Florida and we want to come to STJ ( I do 😉 and he wants to try , But I have been told things like its not a good idea because he is black and that he would not be taken seriously as a contractor? others have tole me thats not true , but none of these people are in the contruction business.
I do know that there is alot of projects going on and also can you tell me if he would have to get a USVI Lic to open a business, if so is it hard to obtain? Thanks

For what it's worth, I can think of at least one very successful black contractor off the top of my head, and I'm not even in the development business. Don't know why your boyfriend would have a problem.

I cannot beleive it's you. Are you the Yolanda which stayed for a while with Bill and Annie from St. John?

The problem (IF there is any) would be that he is not local not that he is black. On these islands I really dont believe it is race as much as cultural. You are either an islander or you're not and often even being born here is not long enough to qualify 😉 . But people do warm up to you after a year or so (maybe sooner) when they realize you are staying.

If he gets his license here I have no doubt he will find work on any of the islands. Good contractors at least are very rare on stx, sure you dont want to come here??

I'm not totally sure what you are asking me. Do i think a licensed contractor will do well in the islands...yes I think he will definitely find work. Will it be enough to support your family, I'm sorry but I dont know. Not a contractor and I live on stx.
