Hi all,

I have been reading the forum for a few days now and everyone seems pretty full of info and nice things to say. I am living in Las Vegas, full time student at our community college. I have been stuggling to go away for school but nothing has catputred my attention until now at UVI. Anyhow, so now I have this crazy idea about packing up and moving south, but then what? I know I should take a scoping trip first to find an apartment and a job but then what?? How has anyone just packed up and left everything and everyone they knew? If anyone has decided to make this decision out of the blue let me know how it worked for you and what you did regaurding cars, health insurance...

Thanks and Smiles!!

Hello there. I did not move on an idea 'out of the blue', however I thought that my plan to move when I would be semi-retired got bumped up 20 years due to an accident. In that sense, it was not on my mental life schedule, and had a little less time to figure everything out.

This message board helps. A lot. READ EVERYTHING. It could be published as a question and answer forum that is continually being updated.

I agree with Terry. Do a PMV. Unless you do, you will not know how or where to look for work, where to live, shop, what kind of resources you will need until you get a job and how this will all tie in to school.

We are not a huge island, but after living here for a few months, the importance of being fairly close to where you work, shop, go to school, etc. becomes veryclear.

Taking chances based on faith and hope is admirable, but gaining some knowledge first can make the difference bewteen a truly exiting and rewarding experience, or one that is filled with confusion and anxiety.

Best wishes, and hope to hear that you have done a PMV.

Dan

well kerri, i doing just that "out of the blue" movin to St Thomas .I am so excited and ready to have lots of adventure But i have planned for the worst as well . Basically i have bought a round trip tk for 2 weeks where i plan on exploring the islands to find the best fit for me. i have saved money so that i don't starve or anything and hope to have enough to get started if i find employment, but i haven't set anything up as far as lodging. from the research i have been doing i believe that one can arrive on the island and find accomadations. A PMV is a great idea i am doing just that while trying to set myself up to stay and not return to Florida if the oppertunity arises. So in nut shell GO FOR IT just save some money first! Hope my ramblings have helped!
Good luck !

not trying to steal your thread, but dev2006, depending on your personality, it wont be hard to choose an island for your move. if you like loudness, busy streets, more people/tourists, than st.thomas would be your an island that would appeal to you. st. john not as bad. St. croix would be your best bet for the totally opposite. Not bashing the other two islands at all, i love them both, they both have amazing beaches, but it is what it is.
