crazy talk?

I'm graduating from college in May with an elementary and special education degree. I'm looking to go anywhere different than Indiana. I saw a listing for schools in the virgin islands hiring special education teachers. What are the schools like? Is this realistic or just crazy talk? Do people really just move somewhere randomly and hope to find a job?

Any advice would be great!

Laura:

From the vi paper.

The St. John School on Gifft Hill is looking for an Elementary teacher. Please mail your resume to P O Box 1657 St. John, VI 00831 or fax resume to 340-693-9926 or email [email protected] Attn: R. Shapiro.

btw st john is SO nice.

the schools are very bad here. i had a conversation with some non native resident kids 13 14 16 who had just gotten back from UVI because the schools here are not credited and they needed to take real classes.

I dont know about special education.

And as far as jobs. If you are ok with working as something other than a teacher. jewlery sales person. bartender. retail person. waitress. until you find a teaching job. youll have NOOO problem finding a job.

I believe it is the public high schools that are not complying with the US standards. The private schools, which gift hill is one of them, are acredidated.

Laura: To answer your last question, yes, people really do move here randomly and hope to find a job! I would really recommend that you call special ed, talk to someone about a site visit. Come and take a look at the VI, talk in person with the people in education. It will be difficult to get hired if you don't show up in person. That is just part of the insular mind-set. And the schools are never going to improve if qualified professionals don't step up to the plate!
