I am genuinely curious why if you loathe the island so much post on this forum just reminding you of all the crime and tough times you had to deal with here? Just seems simple if you moved because you hated it or because of how bad the crime is why would you continue to be involved in this forum? Is it fun for you to scare the newbs or ??

Yeah. I live here. Crime has gotten much worse since I first came in '02. I am a professional, not a member of a gang, nor prone to hang out with same, yet I have been the victim of violence more often here on STX than in any other city I have ever lived in -- including places as large as Chicago, Los Angeles, London, and New Delhi.

Sleep with a machete? You find that silly?

Don't move to C'sted, hon.

I take it you don't read any of my posts Under the Coconut tree like this:

https://www.vimovingcenter.com/talk/read.php?7,224588

I don't loath the islands. When asked to use one word to describe them, I said, "Enchanting".

I've said it before and I'm sure I'll have to repeat myself again, I gained a lot and lost a lot down there. I only post negative stuff about the islands in crime threads, and never start them. If someone asks, I will give them an informed perspective on crime down there.

I moved because it was the end of my time there, and if I had stayed I would have surely died. I do not hate the islands.

What you have there is one huge mess that I see every time I visit life-long friends. People deserve to know they are walking into a place less safe than the worst parts of Detroit, and any less would be deception, which you seem intent on.

Does bad stuff happen here; YES! Its it fact that some bad stuff happens here BUT BUT BUT like I said three years ago when I started on this board and before I moved here, you have to realize that you're painting a picture for future residents.

Yes. And that picture should be as realistic as possible. You would not BELIEVE how many smart, intelligent, well-traveled, educated people on the mainland think this is Club Med.

Kudos for you that you've managed to escape the worst of it. Do not, however, denigrate the very real, and very terrifying experiences of people who haven't.

No I don't read more of your posts because after reading only a few I decided I don't like you much. You are just too negative and I think you enjoy fear mongering. After all when someone posts about crime, there you are up on the front lines. You could just link to one of your dozens of posts about crime instead of once again flooding it with copy and past articles that people can easily find on their own from 20 years ago. I think you get off on it and thats sick not to mention a bit nuts.

Now I am join got get in my car, drive to town (where I will not be carjacked) stop for lunch (where I will not be robbed or shot) and later I am going to the beach (where I will not be raped).

Please if you must stay - post only RELEVANT crime. Quit with the 80-90s crap. It doesn't apply.

"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it",
- George Santayana.

There is a vast difference between remembering the past and dwelling on it to the point of obsessiveness.

Yea Iris I would never choose to live in an area where I had to sleep with a machete. Sorry, just my choice I guess 😕

Good grief, people!

Take a deep breath and go outside to take a look at what an absolutely beautiful day it is.

I've lived here all my life and have never been shot at, had my car or home broken into, been raped, my purse stolen or any of the other things that have been mentioned. I keep a machete to cut back yard growth not sleep with. Yes I do drive with wasp spray just in case.

I have had to deal with ignorant attitudes from both blacks and whites, locals, "just come here" types tourist and Gov. officials. I had my share of schuppsing and done my share.

Y'all go outside and look at where you are, right now, this minute.
It is a "drop dead" GORGEOUS DAY! ENJOY!

Good advice. Right across the street from my house here in Charlotte, NC, is a small park with a small lake. Having lived here in one of the largest cities in the country, for almost 18 years, I have yet to experience any crime at all, except for someone putting a dent in my parked car once.

My house on STT was safe too. We had Great Danes for guard dogs (five through the years, most rescues) and I fired my guns on the front lawn and met people at the door usually with one of my 12 gauges. People on our street were not as lucky though; like my best friend right down the same road from me being broken into twice in their first year there.
