Crime in St. Croix

So I'm responding late me and my family lived in St.croix for 8 years and I'm just warning you since the closing of hovensa (hess oil) refinery crime rate has soared. We left island partially because of it. Right after we did we had some family friends get home invaded and murdered/in their own house the police there are corrupt and do very little. Also my mom's a nurse and it's very difficult to work for that hospital they'll make you sign a contract that essentially says you're obligated to work overtime however they are not likely to pay you for the overtime worked (no joke).
Also the locals can be very racist towards white people first white governor was nearly killed till he stepped out of the race... Great place to visit terrible place to live.
If you insist moving country day school is the best on island followed by good hope school DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO PUBLIC SCHOOLS ON ISLAND. They've had stabbings rapes and other crime (basically step up from prison) Again beautiful place to visit terrible place to live.

We also came from the DC area (Reston Va) all I can say is good luck some people adjust some can't handle it. Stay safe.

So your talking about 6 years ago? Do you have current info? You do know the refinery is starting back up?

I've lived on STX for many years. I'm not sure what island this guy is referring to.

Who were your family friends that were home invaded and murdered? What were their names? That would have had been major news. I can only think of one person that was killed who's mentioned a lot on this forum.
