Crime on St John

I have read on this board for a while now. I never seen anything written about crime or murders on St John. Is this because there is not much or not a lot of residents from St John here on the forum? Is there a website that criminal activity is posted? I love St Croix but the crime is disgusting. I would love to compare the two Isands. Thanks.

There's very little crime on St John. I think you can find the statistics easily enough online and even on the VIPD website by doing a Google.

To answer your question, there is a lot less crime on St John than on St Croix, percentage-wise and in absolute numbers. And people also talk about it less because there are fewer STJ residents that post on this board compared with the other islands.

The St. John Tradewinds publishes the police log every week. That's probably the best way to get a good picture of crime here from off island. They also publish a summary of the statistics for this year to date and compare it with the previous year. Check the back issues in the website's archive section.

Murders are uncommon on St John, but there is violent crime and it doesn't just happen in the early morning hours anymore. I used to feel safe going anywhere in Cruz Bay in the early evening, but I no longer do. Seasonally, there is more burglary and other crime in high season than when there are fewer tourists around in the summer.

I lived on STJ for a while. Cruz bay is a very small area of bars and shops. The crime there is comparable to any other area of night time bars in the islands. It is not always reported in the media so as not to scare tourists away. I saw a couple of bad things during my 6 month stay. There is very little crime outside of town, but I would still lock my doors and have my eyes open. I have a dog too.
