Good evening my fellow posters...I'm reaching out to folks who may be able to help me find what I'm looking for.

I've lived on STX for four years and have only been to STJ twice (day trips). I have to go over for work (day trip) but would like to make a long weekend of it. I'm looking for simple lodging (think studio condo w/pool & a gallery w/view), or even B&B in town. I'd prefer walking distance to Cruz Bay in case I don't want to keep the jeep for the whole weekend.

I've done this before in STT (Sapphire Beach) for about $100/nt, but every place that I've found in STJ is $200 plus per night with 4 night min. I'm not looking for a vacation, just a simple weekend getaway. Is STJ having such a great season that they're not willing to bargain?

Looking for the first weekend in May. Any ideas? Thanks 🙂

Two ideas for sub-$200/night spots that meet your location requirement: the Boutique Hotel (right in Cruz Bay), which might hit your $200/night limit; and the Inn at Tamarind Court, a three-minute walk up the hill from CB and that runs around $165-$170/night.

Boutique Hotel is only a few years old, and it has nice, clean rooms. Feels more like a European mini-hotel. Tamarind is much older, and the rooms are tired and worn and beds are not that comfortable. But it's clean and safe. The staff there is really nice, and they have a restaurant/bar on site.

I've looked and looked at STJ lodging for exactly the same things you're looking for (my wife and I usually spend a long weekend there once a year), and every time we end up at Tamarind. Not because they're great rooms--they're not by any stretch--but because it's the cheapest place we can find that's safe, clean and close to CB. Boutique's rooms are much nicer, but then, you'll pay more for the privilege.

I do think there's a market for another alternative in the sub-$200/night hotel in CB, but with real estate prices so high there (and WAPA making it tough for any company to operate at a profit), it would be tough for someone to make that go.

Check out www.starvillas@msn.com

They have various priced accommodations in a quiet neighborhood within walking distance to town and Frank Bay/Cruz Bay.
Nice people, good rates, clean and lovely places with great views. You can call 340-776-6704.
Rates drop in May I think but listed on website with rates and pics.

If you can wait until Aug/sept, Gallows sometimes runs specials. I've booked for as low as $90@night.
