Cute tourist question today

I was in town today, and I overheard a taxi driver asking a tourist if he wanted to see the rain forest. The tourist asked what there was to see in the rain forest. The taxi driver said, "Sugar mills, pretty trees, the Domino Club, Mount Victory Camp, Smoothie Shack" and the tourist said, "Yeah, but are there any wild animals, like monkeys or cougars?"

The taxi driver said, "Goats and horses, sometimes pigs." and the guy said, "We have those running wild all over England" and walked away!

"Monkey's or Cougars???" It made my day. 🙂

Cougars? In a rainforest?

I guess he thought it was Busch Gardens, ha ha! 🙂

Lots of tourists downtown today - looked like a good shopping day!

Many years ago I used to live not too far from Morningstar Beach on St Thomas and took my dog down there after work for both of us to walk and swim. There was no restaurant or the Morningstar villas there then, just the Reef at the far end. One evening we'd done our swimming and were walking the beach when a group of two couples came walking towards us. Sandals and socks, plaid shorts, flowered shirts, cameras hanging around their necks and big hats, I bid them a cheery, "Good Evening" as they approached. They looked at me as though I had four heads, passed me by and then one of the women, on seeing my dog, squealed out, "Oh LOOK, Honey, they have DAWGS here!!"

My evening was complete when old Bess cocked her head, thought about that comment and then walked over to a small pile of seaweed where she squatted and peed. Couldn't have expressed myself any better. 😀

Sandals and socks are a bad enough fashion statement where it's cold, but in the VI? Where it's warm and sandy? Interesting choice...

Actually, there are cougar in Costa Rica and other Central American rain forests. Puma is just another name for cougar, but there actually is a Costa Rican cougar.
So, not so "haha" a question after all 🙂

The rainforest on St Croix isn't technically a 'real' rainforest - I was pretty disappointed when I first saw it - I guess the lack of high canopy reduces the number of exotic inhabitants and funky vegetation. But, the Domino Club ROCKS!

If you go to Guahataca and El Yunque on Puerto Rico, you can get a taste of the steamy jungle with weird cries and amazing waterfalls without having to go too far.

I have also seen cougars at the Deep End Bar and several other locations.

At the dive shop they have asked question such as;

How do they keep the islands from floating into each other?

Where can I get samples of the different colors of water?

Why is the water salty? This is a sea not the ocean!

asking the workers "do you live here?"
