Edited: Never mind, just found the old thread about Dr. Merritt. I'll call in the morning!

I have an insect/spider bite on my finger that may need to be looked at. A web search for a dermatologist on STX turns up Carolyn Merritt. Any references/suggestions? 🙂

Are you sure you need a dermatologist? General doctors on island are usually pretty adept with insect bites...I recently had an infected ant bite that got nasty and was just put on antibiotics and neosporin and it cleared up fine...

I might just need that. It looks like a spider bite. I don't think it's a brown recluse (been bit twice by them in TX - ugh) but it's on my little finger and is swelled up. Holding ice on it and seeing what I'll need to do in the morning...

The BF just goes to the clinic by Sunny Isle. I would like to find a general doctor here to go to for these sorts of things, if you have anyone to recommend...Thank you for the help!

Julie,
Can you update us on the 'spider bite?' Did you seek medical help?
Thanks,
Swan

Hi Swan, I did get a good referral here on the board but so far I haven't gone to the doctor even though I was nervous a few days! But ice and neosporin has seemed to do the job - it's down now to pretty much a small blister with a bit of redness. I'm definitely keeping the referral for potential future needs though.

Thank you for checking on me! Normally I wouldn't worry so much but being on my little finger I was worried about infection and all that, and it was pretty red and "streaky" the first night. But it went down by the next morning and it's been on the mend since. I'm glad it's working it's way out - I'm a pretty tough old thing. *grins* 😀
