DISH Network adds a ton of HD for USVI/PR

Hey guys,

Just wanted to let those who are interested in HD TV programming in the VI that Dish network just setup a spot beam for the USVI and PR (a section of a satellite pointed just at us) which is now beaming 33 channels in High Definition to the USVI. Previously we had 6 plus a few movie channels. This was turned on yesterday. You can also now receive all of this on one 4 foot satellite Dish with very good results.

Here's a list of the channels in HD now in the USVI:

A&E
Animal Planet HD
Bravo HD
Cartoon Network HD
CNBC HD+
CNN HD
Comedy Central HD
Discovery Channel HD
Disney HD
Disney XD HD
Espn2HD
Food Network HD
FX HD
HDTV HD
History HD
Lifetime HD
MTV HD
Nick HD
Spike HD
TBS HD
TLC HD
The Weather Channel HD

Also the company providing the networks has apparently lowered their HD price to $18.99/month for all 4 networks out of EITHER Chicago or LA (choice of not both). While this is still a bit high considering I get the SD channels out of BOTH NY and SF for $12.99 I'll likely add them or switch plans come football season so I can watch some games in HD.

We are finally joining the rest of the country/world and getting a decent selection of High Definition Television down here with relative ease (no more 6 foot monstrosities required in our yards, just a 4 foot dish hanging off the side of the house).

Hope this info is helpful...just had to tell someone as I'm excited 🙂

Sean

That is great news! Always good to have more competition.

But I gotta tell you as a woman, there's little difference between a 4ft monstrosity and a 6ft. 😀 So my husband's still not getting one. When we can use the little stateside one, we'll talk.

That's great Sean! It seems new accounts will have to wait until Aug. 7 but existing HD customers are seeing them as of yesterday.

Actually Dish will start marketing a 30 inch dish in PR soon. They will be set up for 110 only so they will get the HD channels, PR locals, and some other channels. You still require 119 to get the whole package so I will be hestitant to sell those. Maybe after the first of the year the 119 yoke will come into play to pick up both. Dish is scheduled to launch a new sat for that position so we'll see what happens.

As for the 4 ft (1.2 meter) dish being required.........Some have opted for the smaller 1.0 meter with pretty good results. Remember that the bigger the dish the stronger the signal,...which means less rain fade.
Size does matter and if you have the larger dish you will just get stronger signal as they improve coverage for us. The dish is just an antenna.

Betty,
I'm pretty good at hiding dishes depending on the layout of the property.

Sean,
What Movie Channels are you getting in HD? You said a handful from before. Some customers might still want 61.5 until they get those moved over as well. 6 ft. monstrosity required for good reception on 61.5;)

Be proud of your dish farm!:D
