Dish Network

Does anyone have any experience with using the Dish Network on St. Thomas? There's a company called Satellite Entertainment Services based in Lindbergh Bay that offers the service. To my knowledge they are the only provider for Dish Network, and Direct TV is unavailable. So has anyone used them? How long did it take to get an appointment for installation? I think they're a small company so I'm hoping it'll be quick.

FYI - I went the Innovative route at first, but after 4 months and still no cable I asked for my money back. Then I tried Choice Communications, but after doing a site survey (the day after my initial inquiry, to their credit) they determined that they couldn't get a signal where I live. So now hopefully this works. If it does it looks like their prices are pretty good, and they offer a number of channels (especially sports networks) that Innovative and Choice do not.

I entered the zip code 00802 on the main Dish Network website and it indicated there are two providers on STX and the one on STT, plus one in PR. It also said you could sign up at Radio Shack stores but I doubt that applies here, because I asked once about Direct TV and they said it wasn't available in the VI (and you'd think they would mention if Dish was).

On the www.1800dish.com site they also mention a satellite internet service called Starband which offers pretty fast transfer rates (downloads up to 1 Mbps, I think). However it is fairly expensive, something like a $700 start up cost for the equipment, though you can finance that if you wish. The other interesting thing is that you can get one dish that works for both Starband internet and Dish Network TV.

Since I brought up Starband, has anyone here tried the DSL or Broadband services offered by VI Access or VI PowerNet? I think VI Access charges $99/month, and VI PowerNet does not have a price listed on their website yet. I use VI PowerNet's dial up service now which is super cheap ($15/month I think) but it has been hanging up on me periodically, and it's never faster than 48.8

I have DISH Network service with an approx. 38" dish. I would however suggest getting a larger dish to avoid rain fade. We purchased ours at the one in Lindbergh Bay. They will also install for a fee (I recall it was around $150).

Cool, thanks for the tip. That's a bigger dish than I thought it would be! Will have to get permission from my landlords first I guess.
