Pam: In the olden days Herb Caen wrote a book "Don't Call It Frisco" and I believe he would write a new one today if he saw people calling the state "Cali". California is a perfectly beautiful name.

Okay, now... There are UVI students who are car-less- and probably careless too! 😉 The bus service is not great, but between the safaris and your friends, you will probably have transportation.

BTW, has anyone heard about the safari drivers charging the $1 surtax on their routes?

I moved to STT a little over a month ago. I've been without a car, mostly using the safari taxis. It's not unbearable, but a car would be a heck of a lot more convenient. You can't really load up all your laundry, groceries, and trash onto a safari. so I've been doing more walking than I really want to. Incidentally, the safaris are charging $2 now. I heard they were going to go back to $1 after September 1st. here's hoping!!!

Coming from Cali? Not have a car? Depends on where you live, where you want to shop, eat, pretty sure that you will feel a lot better about the island if you have even a cheap "island car".

I did it without an island car for my first 8 months here - but you have no idea the freedom I had once I got it. I lived in Cali before I moved here!

Hello Pam,

Are you staying on campus/dorms? Right now you just plan on attending for one semester? Do you plan on getting a job?
