Dogs at Customs STX

I will be moving to St Croix in the future-ish. The two remaining questions that I can not find answers to are these...

How long does it take to clear your dog through Customs at STX?
What is the process...does Customs do it or the Airlines (I've read both...)?

I understand everything that goes with flying in a dog...heat, papers, vaccinations, etc.
Anyone have an answer they're willing to bestow upon me?
Thanks!

You don't have to clear customs when arriving here - only when leaving! There is no process at all.

I've never had a question from Customs when flying out with an animal, either. Nobody asked for my paperwork, ever.

When we used to have to fill out the form (no longer needed since new rules a year ago), there is a box to check for transporting "(b) meats, animals, animal/wildlife products." Last time the agent asked me what kind of meat I was carrying. "The live kind," I said and held up the carrier. She had the decency to apologize!

Thanks for the responses!

I was under the impression when you landed in STX that you had to wait for your critters to clear customs...

That's the problem with the internet researching...sometimes you can't tell how dated the information is!

You don't have to clear your pet in thru customs in VI since it goes thru TSA upon departure
Dog is offloaded in VI, either onto the baggage carrier or taken to baggage office in baggage arrival area.

Take a leash with you as they make you take dog out of kennel to check dog and carrier for contraband. Also take 4 zip ties as you must secure all
4 corners of kennel door once dog is back in kennel to insure dog cannot accidentally escape.

When I flew, recently with my 60lb. dog, they inspected the paperwork you have to fill out which contains the information from the veterinarian health certificate that you must have issued WITHIN 10 days of traveling.
