Are dogs allowed off leash at the beach for a swim, I live in Santa Barbara Ca. I am considering moving to STX in three years when I retire. Here we have a few beaches that are dog friendly.

Depends on the beach. Some yes, some no.

Hello Dave,

I am guessing you mean designated 'dog beaches/parks'. There aren't any on St. Croix that I know of but there are beaches that get less crowds that are used by residents to bring their dogs for a swim. A bit of fetch the stick or frisbee... the dogs are usually lose with owner nearby. I have seen some dogs at Coakley Bay for example.

People bring their dogs to Rainbow Beach without any probems. Lots of friendly people and family friendly!

I've seen dogs on most beaches, in fact a few horses.

Hello Islander,

Thanks for the info and restarting this thread under a more appropriate heading. ( I assume it was you ). I will be landing in STX on May 27th for a week, to check things out for myself. I have obtained a vast amount of knowledge from this message board and also purchased the Settler's Handbook. Dave

At least on Sundays, Cane Bay becomes Canine Bay. Owners are always nearby though.

Hello Dave,

You are welcome. All the best with your planning. If you have other questions... feel free to ask :).
