Thanks to all for your helpful info. Still haven't heard back from potential employer. It's that frustrating loop of not getting considered because I'm off island, but can't go back until I have guaranteed employment. Can't really blame the employers, as they have multitudes of people living on the mainland who apply for positions who then are never heard from again, but it does get tiring explaining that, yes, I'm familiar with the VI, and YES I'm willing to relocate permanently. I'll just keep trying until I annoy someone to the point of giving me a job or saving up, again, to come on down and apply in person.

I live in Buffalo NY ! I would cut off my left nut to never look at snow again and I would also drive 2hrs on a nice island over 10 minutes here.
Come visit me for 2 days in February and you'll be just fine, haha.

The only "frantic" area of STT is town. I live in totally idyllic peace and quiet but in less than 10 minutes can drive into town. Unfortunately it's a very common misconception!

FOR SURE!
I would be filthy rich if I had a dollar for every time I have to explain this to a Crucian. It's such disgust and hate for STT here and I try to tell them, north side STT is like Fsted or way out east - so laid back, quiet, safe, friendly, peaceful, beautiful.

CA is a bit hectic and really only on big ship days - but in reality nothing like stateside or even PR for that matter. Its like everyone goes to STT and stays in town and doesn't experience the rest of the island which is very much like STX "country".

I try to use the analogy of looking at Fsetd and judging the entire island of STX on how run down it is. Thats not a fair representation of STX. Both island have their benefits and downsides, thats for sure.

It's so funny and strange how different our perspectives are of these islands. I used to vacation on St. John and St. Thomas. I had never even heard of St. Croix. One year my daughter said let's spend half of our vacation on St. Croix. When we told people on St. John and St. Thomas that we were going to St. Croix they told us that we were crazy. It is a terrible place, you will be robbed or killed. It's so dangerous. Why would you ever want to go there??? I was afraid but as we had made our reservations we came anyway. I honestly was afraid to leave our Condo with my baby, terrified we would be robbed or killed. It was a very stressful week and I was glad to leave. The next time I came to St. Croix, it was just for a 3 day visit to look at a boat that was being auctioned. I got a terrible sinus infection while I was here and my face was so swollen and I was in so much pain that I could not fly. We ended up staying for a week. My husband rented a car to drive around the island because I was so tired of staying in the hotel. After a week of driving around and meeting the people here, I fell so in love with St. Croix and the people here. I have never outside of this message board heard anyone bash St. Thomas. In fact most of the people I know here love to go to St. Thomas and go shopping and visit friends there. They like it here better of course because it is home and very rural for the most part but I don't ever hear any St. Thomas bashing. The only bashing I have heard from from people on St. Thomas and St. John. This is only my experience and I am not discounting that others have different experiences.

Ha!
Sorry, but I've seen and heard lots of STT bashing.
Yes. On this board, too.

My niece fell in love with a Crucian man and they're now happily married with a baby boy but she said that when they were going back and forth between STT and STX, the complete lack of understanding from criticisms that she was meeting about what life on STT was all about just amazed her with the ferocity that was often displayed. She was born in STT.

BTW..... they now happily live here and visit STX family, often.

I've lived in all 3 USVI islands. I've seen and heard it the bashing too.
I don't get it.
It seems like while STX puts down STT for having a spectacular harbor, the influx of cruise ships, the easy access to lots of islands surrounding us, and other things that there is a resentment because of this.

Each person has to decide what's best for them.
Each island has their pros and cons.
Whatever floats your boat.

When I lived in STX, I was sailing, diving, had friends that were hang gliding, I was getting upgraded on my captain's license and enjoying exploring and making friends. I've done that everywhere I've been whether it's been in the Caribbean,
South America, California, New Zealand, U.S., etc.
But my home has always been STT!

Just because I haven't experienced STT bashing Alana doesn't mean I don't believe it happens. Poor St. Croix is out here all alone. I wish we had the proximity to other islands. A big draw back to living on St. Croix for sure. I just think other than the message board it is not really a big thing. At least in my experience. Most of of friend are born here Crucian and many have family and friends on St. Thomas. They love both islands and enjoy them both. I think all the bashing comes from people who move here and prefer one island to another and have nothing better to do than bash the island that they don't live on.

LOL! There is one exception from a Crucian that I am friends with. He is in his mid to late 30s. Bless his heart. He told me once he has never been off island. I thought that was terrible and wanted to take him to the states for a week. He said, " Well, I went to St. Thomas for a week. Them people were strange and think we are stupid on St. Croix. I just wanted to come home." I again asked him to come with us to the states for a week and he said, "No! They think we live in trees and don't know nothing. I'm not ever going to go." I told him he was wrong and that people in the states would think he was so cool and interesting. He said ,"No, I was born here and gonna stay here til I die." So sad. Right? Not for him. He is happy as he can be right here on St. Croix. He thinks the rest of the world is not right. Not right for him anyway. I just love him. One of the most wonderful people I have ever met. His name is Shaun and he loves me right back and thinks that for someone who is not Crucian that I am pretty ok even if I am different. Can't do no better than that.

Just try this as an experiment. Next person you meet that doesn't know you, at the grocery store or BMV - just mention your just moved here from STT. See what they say. I had to tell my friends to stop introducing me as from STT. I got so much "oh you made the right move" or "that place is a hell hole". The latter comment was actually someone who contacted me for a website. She didn't remember saying it but I sure did - and decided I didn't want to work with her. It's funny people don't really even ask which I like better they just go nuts on STT. I guess they assume I like it here better because I am here lol.

I did often hear Thominians bash STX. My friends when I left were gobsmacked on why the heck I would move and it's pretty widely believed that STX is crime ridden. PLEASE don't post stats - I know it's the same lol. The bashing is certainly not one sided and now we've been here a year so I don't have to explain myself that I'm from STT so I don't hear it as much. I am a tough broad but it really got me down.

Ironic that STX thinks STT is just crazy traffic and busy 24/7 and STT thinks STX is crime ridden and neither are true. I do what I can to not perpetuate the hate for either island... although everyone here knows I'm partial to STT lol.

before i even knew i would be living here, all i heard were horror stories of stx.

now it seems that people who live on stx bash stt and those who live on stt bash stx.

and i dont think calling one island busier is bashing-just my opinion.

Just as well that not everyone falls under the generalized blanket. I've never bashed STX and same can be said of my many friends over the decades - although I've heard and read the bashing occasionally from both sides. I think in many respects, "bashing" can be more indicative of the basher's insecurity/oneupmanship needs (and certainly ignorance) than anything else.

What on earth are you getting your knickers in such a twist about? Simply commenting on a comment you made. and it's unfortunate that you decided to take it entirely the wrong way - and personally to boot. (td)

One last time and I'll try and keep it really simple. You're making a total fuss about absolutely nothing. I quoted a comment you made and my response which addressed that comment in more detail was NOT a personal attack on you nor a denigration of your comment in any way, shape or form. I don't know how to respond in simpler terms. If you want to read what I said as a personal attack on you then (a) you're completely out in left field and (b) there's nothing further I can do about it.
