drivers license requirements
Someone please help, I am sort of getting conflicting stories as to what you need to get your drivers license. I already have a USA valid drivers license, is it required to take a physical and a written exam. I know that I need an SS card, Passport or birth certificate along with my USA drivers license. And do they keep your old drivers license when they give you your island license? HELP!!!!
Requirements on STX - If you have a valid (not expired) state side license, take it and your birth certificate, passport and social security card (never hurts to have ALL your identification, even if they don't ask for it) to the police station, fill out the form, pay the cashier, get your picture taken and then you'll get your VI license. You will have to surrender your state side license.
On STT you go to the Motor Vehicle Bureau, not the police station.
Thanks,
So everything is the same for STT except for the Police station versus the MVB?
Yes.
HAPPY: Read your manual- http://www.virginislandsdailynews.com/VIRGIN_ISLANDS_DRIVERS_MANUAL.pdf
🙂
On STX you also take it to the Bureau of Motor Vehicles not to the police station (that changed a couple years ago).
so if you have a valid drivers license from another state you do not have to take the written or driven exam?
I gave them my Michigan license which was valid and didn't have to take a test
Fantastic!!!!! Thank you so much!!!! Do i just need 2 forms of ID and a valid address?
Take your passport plus another piece of ID. Social Security card might be asked for.
Jim
Social Security card is ALWAYS asked for. If anyone is an exception to that, they just got lucky. Don't leave home without it for anything "official". Also, be sure to wear a shirt with sleeves, male or female.
It is unsfortunate that I didn't read this post before yesterday. I had on a nice thin strap dress and was turned away. I had to come home get a different shirt and go back. Otherwise the process was painless. Why the cashier did not inform me when I paid her upset me a little bit. But, just another "Island Welcome"
The only delay I experienced was that they contact the state of your current license to see if you have any warrants etc... This can take a few hours; for one friend of mine it took a few days.
We didn't encounter that issue. I guess it as they want it to be when they want it to be!!!
