I got mine in about 1 hour, but I had a license from another state.

The DMV is getting efficient. Took me less than an hour for a drivers license.

I renewed my plates last week in less than fifteen minutes.

Before I moved to Barbados, I went thru the whole deal to get a license on STT. I didn't have one to exchange, so I had to do the whole process...Had to go for the paper which tells you what you need ...then had to go to the Dr. and eye exam...then had to get passport photos...then had to take the actual paper test...then had to take the driving test... From beginning to end? Took me about a month and a half. It can probably be done is a couple weeks, though.

Yes. It can be done in an hour. If you have to take all the test it will take multiple visits over many days.

If you need to take the road test be sure you observe the parallel parking test and practice on a course similar to the course at the DMV. Also be sure you know what lane to end up in if you make a left or right turn onto a multiple lane road.

It took less than an hour when I went in to have my name changed on my driver's license. They even changed the name on my vehicle registration at the same time. Previously I had gone through the multiple visit experience three years ago to take the written test to get my first USVI license. Now that you don't have to take the written test if you have a valid/unexpired mainland license, it's much less complicated. They do have more of a back-up at the window on the mornings they are giving written tests, so you might try to go at another time to get through as fast as possible.

One of my sons had to go through the entire testing process to get his first ever license. Miraculously he passed both the written and driving tests on the first attempt. Even so, he had to go back four different times just to get the written test scheduled. Someday he'll have to learn to drive on the right when visiting the mainland. Could be scary.

For car tabs, going the last few days of the month or the first few days of the month (lots of people there who are late getting their stickers that were due the previous month) will have you waiting in line 2-3 hours to get through the process. If you go mid-month you can whip right through.
