Earth Day, The Oceans, and WOW read this article

So I read the article on the Source online about the algae bloom that was caught in an ocean gyre and travelled north to reach the VI and Puerto Rico. (here's the link: http://www.onepaper.com/stcroixvi/?v=d&i=&s=News:Local&p=1223617577)

While reading the Source article, I remembered reading (awhile ago) about the huge North Pacific ocean gyre full of trash...so I started googling ocean gyres today.... Read this article, it is truly mindblowing, and also very sad to read on Earth Day. The Source article said it did, but didn't specify which areas. I would think def. the south shore since the bloom came from the south, but I don't know if it reached the north shore. Maybe someone else knows?
