I've seen a number of fishing boats in the EEMP lately. Just the other week one east of Divi resort in Grapetree bay, one guy casting nets while his buddy spearfished on scuba.

Are these guys exempt / allowed to fish in what's supposedly a no take zone?

Call fish & wildlife, dpnr to report.

Rev: Do you know what the rules are for the park? Our East End Reserve here on St Thomas allows casting for bait fish by fishermen. It doesn't allow other fishing however. The problem, as always, is getting someone to enforce the rules.

I'm unsure what the rules are, hence my question. Heard different things from different people but recall seeing a map with at least parts of the park being a no take zone. Would welcome some perspective.

You can get that by asking f&w, dpnr or if any of property is in national park, you can call them. They would be better suited to answer those questions, directly. I'm not familiar enough with stx, to comment on that location.

Like most laws here in the VI, there is zero enforcement so people just get used to that and carry on as if it were legal.

Of course there is zero enforcement when those who see something illegal going on don't report it. The old cry of, "no point saying anything 'cause nothing gets done about it anyway" gets very wearing when so many (including myself) have experienced the opposite. Kudos to the OP for not being one of the majority who simply walks on by.

A cursory google search shows there is a no-take zone, but like on St Thomas, are there exceptions? Also, I see there is a Friends of the Park Facebook page. Maybe you can ask there?
