Electricity Rates

Hi all,

Need help please. I need a price range for electric cost for both 2 bedroom and 3 bed apt / condo. I know the rates are higher, and it all depends on usage, etc, etc, But I just need some type of general # for budgeting. For the sake of this exercise let's say cooking at home nightly, very little A/C usage, other than that , just average usage. Hopefully this way I can get a gauge between the low and high numbers.

Thanks much to all and have a great day

My bill for a 1 bdrm house is $56.42 with 220 KWH use so @$.26 per KWH including all the LEAC charges.
A 2 bd rm condo can be $75 to $500 and up depending onAC use and H2O Heater and number of people

For a budget number I would start at $150/ month.

For reference wasn't the peak rate last year around .51/KWH?

Yep .52c was the peak...we are in a lull atm, only a matter of time before price of oil/energy goes up again.

Wait about 6 weeks for the new local Energy bill to get signed to law. We may see some drastic decreases in the cost of solar electric and solar hot water systems. VIEO has to decide what to do with the 31m that they got from the fed!!! Just wait and see!!! 🙂

Are you sure about very little a/c? Many newbies have a hard time with the heat their first year. Most run it at least at night. Cold turkey is a good way to go to get used to the heat. It also depends where you coming from though. And like someone else mentioned the water heater can be a killer to your bill here. Most stoves are gas here so its your fridge, water heater, electronics, a/c, washer/dryer that are the energy hogs. Hang drying clothes will help save on your monthly bill as well.

I personally would rather prepare for the worst and budget around $250 to $350 for a 3 bedroom. If you go over that leac is way up or you're using too much.

ty all, Your info is very helpful, and gives me a good gauge. Betty thanks for looking out for us, you're always so kind that way with your advice) 😎 I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure about very little a/c. For me climatising is the name of the game, and the hubby's not too keen on the a/c either. We have never used a/c on any of our visits, including last August. Also Wisconsin has pretty high electricity rates and as a gal who keeps the thermo at 75 degrees in Winter (being cold just makes me tired and lethargic) and hardly ever runs the a/c in summer I was kind of hoping that we might be close to a wash. Based on these responses it looks like we might. We are currently paying $325.00 per month on the "budget" cost averaging plan so it looks hopeful.

Thanks again for the responses, they've been a big help! And if anyone has more bring em on please

Just a comment: tourists who come down for a week seem to keep their a/c on even when they leave the room. People who move here do that maybe a month- untilk the first WAPA bill!- and then figure out to use it only when they need it.

I find in the USVI, electricity is like a stable of polo ponies -- if you have to ask how much it costs, you probably can't afford it.

$150 - $160 for a 1 bedroom in STJ - no a/c just "normal" stuff but we have a old water heater and I do use my dryer.
