*Dear Ask the Islander,
I would love to live on St. John after just spending one week there.
What are the job opportunities?
Where on the internet could I find a "help wanted" listing?
Thank you,
Jackie

Jackie: It is very unlikely that you will find a job in the Virgin Islands and especially St John, over the internet. I guess you could check with the Westin and Rosewood (who owns Caneel). Most jobs are through word of mouth and the employer wants to see a live person. I hope you have read through the moving guide on the navigation bar above and have looked through the archives here as this is one of the more frequent of the FAQs!

Jackie,

Like East Ender mentioned the job market on St. John is hard to get into from away. And the accomodations even more difficult... there is a high demand of people who want to work there, live there, retire there, buy property... and just a limited amount of jobs, apartments, and land. What you might do is contact Westin and Caneel - hotels, perhaps contact Connections which is a mail center/fax/information center... place which has a bulletin board - they might have info., try also the Maho Bay Eco-Accomodations they have a sort of an exchange work for stay arrangement - dont know much about it though, but the web site did have information. Also might try the National Park if you are qualified for anything there.

For Connections, bars/resturants - you can look in the yellow pages http://www.usviyellowpages.org and perhaps call and see if there are openings you could fax your resume to apply for, also you can get the hotel contacts there too.
