Exploring STX

Hi everyone,

Hubby JJ and I want to go adventuring tomorrow. We would like to do a little hiking, exploring local historical sites, looking at bugs and interesting plants and trees for JJ, to include a stop at a beach to cool off. We are packing a picnic and have 4 wheel drive pickup. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I've been out to the Carambola hiking trail a couple times. It's fun but it's no light walk. Not difficult, but definately an exercising hike. Along the way there are a couple of great views as you climb higher.
That might be a good starting point and then you could stop by the North Shore afterwards just down the road. Great place for a picnic. From there you can head anywhere you like. I'm not keen on nearest historical sights in the area, maybe someone else could help with that. Hope you have a good time.

Tide Pools? Sandy Point....Jack's.....Judith's Fancy lighthouse..rain forest is always nice

We have been to the tide pools. Haven't been to Sandy point yet. Is it open? Where are good places to explore in the rain forest? I just finished the book, "The Americans Came" all about St. Croix when the Americans bought the VI from the Danish. They make reference to an aquaduct that supplied water. I have heard about a waterfall somewhere in the rain forest. My problem is that I am always afraid of tresspassing on someones land and making them angry. We had an experience once while exploring senic drive and while I don't think we were tresspassing, we made a young man very angry by driving on some back road. I guess we could always just go and jump off the pier. Haven't done that yet. lol

the "waterfall" is a tiny drop that water flows over...but anyways i doubt it's running....i know it was about 2 months ago when we went, and its right off the road. Ham's Bluff is a nice hike too
