There are also plans to build a 600 acre development north of Fredriksted, to include 2 golf courses, a marina, a retirement community, single-family housing, condominiums, a casino, etc. Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut recently bought into the project and is expected to be the major financial force behind it going forward. They reported that they expect to break ground before the end of the year. If so, this will be an awesome opportunity for the entire west end of STX.

Hi all, just signed up. My wife and I are planning on relocating To STX in the near future. We have been 2x already and will be down for New Years, staying at Carrington's again. I am an Environmental Graphic Designer (signage/graphics, interiors and furnishings) and am very interested in contacting anyone involved with the Foxwood's project mentioned here. I have done work at Foxwoods in the last two years and will use my contacts from that but any local STX contacts would be greatly appreciated. Any excuse to get down there sooner works for me. I had one of those ephiphanies 3 years ago where I said we were going to live in STX without ever having visited it. As I mentioned we've been 2x so far and are looking for property. If you pickup the Caribbean Adventure Tours kayak brouchure thats Kadie and I in the main photo taken at Salt River.

I would love to be involved in the revitalization of STX and had contacted the re-developers of the aluminum plant a couple years back. I then met a gentleman who had just purchased an interest in it on our last trip down.

Look forward to joining those of you already in America's Paradise and those who will "soon come"

I'm an island boy "north shore of St. Croix", finally found my piece of serenity" Kenny Chesny and me

I just love this forum! Does anyone have contact info for William and Punch Partners, LLC? The buzz about the revitalization of Fredricksted is just incredible. The vibe alone will make it work.

I spoke with Senator Barshinger (spelling) today. The developers for William & Punch Partners - whatever they are called- will be at the Meeting this wed. night 5:30 at St. Gerards hall (across from the catholic church on the north end of Frederiksted on Lagoon st.

The meeting is for all interested parties who want to learn /discuss/ what needs to be done to bring the cruise ships back.

Linda from Michigan,
I've just discovered this forum today even though I've had the website link for a year or two. I've read with great interest yours and others posts on the "MOVE" and can't wait to make my own.
Will you be attending this meeting? It is important to me as a designer and soon-to-be STX resident to get involved in future developement projects and make a difference in the aesthetic of this island. I would be very intersested in having a liason "on island" who can put me in touch with the right people.

I design signage and graphics for the gaming/hospitality industries and have worked for Disney and many of the big names in Las Vegas. I would LOVE to get involved with any project that would help bring further prosperity to all of the people of STX.

Would you be interested in helping me?

I will be there. It was a cruise ship that brought me to St. Croix the first time when I fell in love with it. Why wouldn't I want to participate!

There were about 100 people and the best news was that there is a ship coming in for 11 visits starting in Oct, but it looks like other ships won't be coming until 12/07 and that's on the condition that STX has put in place plans that will make it a desirable stop. It was an interesting meeting with a mix of positive and negative, but I left feeling pretty good about the future of F'sted.

I wish, every now and again, that all the friggin ships would leave STT and go to STX.

The cruise line people are really a smug bunch of a holes if I may be so blunt. They get mad at the Crown Bay developement and smack the VI gov. by taking the ships from STX.

Now, Fsted looks SWEET! Totally reboen and they say what?

If yer nice we MIGHT bring in 12 ships a year? I say screw them!

Why can ST.Martin charge twice what STT charges per head? We are not taxing those ships anywhere near enough and for them to get "tough" on us is a joke.

FOr what those dam ships cost in infrastructure delays and what they really bring the community should be looked into.

The Foxwoods thing is GREAT. I live in STT and STX.

Here are a few things I can remember.... Beal, Diamond Kitiera SP?, Michael Jackson, Carambola, and the other guy over on the south shore with a 500M project. a little cynical at midnight I guess. I love STX the way it is.

The mood of St. John is totally changed now from developement. St. Croix should be called the last real Vrign.

i agree with all islands.... st croix should be called the last real virgin. i may be biased because i live here, but i prefer st croix over the others to live. now don't get me wrong, i love visiting st john... but to live i chose st croix.

now, being a business owner in frederiksted, i can tell you that things are on an upswing. how big of an upswing is to be determined. the past year has been really tough for the businesses on strand street. but we're all struggling through it together. the street is turning out to be unbelievable. the park is almost complete, but the street itself is gonna take alot more time to dig up, bury new water, sewer and power lines, and the re-pave. but, in the end, it will all be worth it.

as for the williams and punch project. i hope it goes through. it would be great for both frederiksted AND st croix. how could it not with some financial backing coming from the world's largest casino. i could see some world series of poker tournaments being played down here in the next 5 years once it's finished. but that is to be determined too.

for those of you looking into frederiksted with open arms and open minds, hope is here. i love the town no matter what, but this entire project can help it get back onto its feet.

F'sted is nowhere near ready for cruise ships. And I doubt it will be ready in 4 months.

I just hope we are not being set up to fail.

As a frequent traveller for 15yrs to St John & the BVI I agree completely with allislands & Adam. After finally "discovering" St Croix we like it MUCH better than the others!

Adam what business do you own in Fred'sted? We'll be down in Oct.

linda-

i agree that stx will not be ready for cruise ships in four months. but it's not gonna be four months from now... it's gonna be 1 1/2 months from now! the gov't needs to get their butts in gear and get this project completed.

Of all the island towns I have seen.... almost all up and down the chain... St. Croix and San Juan are the most beautiful. IMO

BOTH Fsted and Csted are just amazing. Although it's a little painful, slow growth is best. After all most people have been waiting for STX "revival" since that thing in Carambola.

I am not alone in thinking or saying that there are forces "out there" that are keeping STX a little quaint place for heavy hitters to come down and not have to deal with over populated tourist trap crap.

I truly feel that this is it though. Fsted and csted are looking more and more amazing every month. If you can drive around the hills in fsted and vistit the lavetz museum, do the trails, go horseback riding and all that stuff. I'm a "local" and it is still a trip every time. The lavetz museum has some incredible mangoes that, if you time it right, can buy and take a head trip back to what it must have been like way back when.

World class diving and fishing are right there too. HAve fun

After getting your coffee, walk to the end of Strand Street and visit me at my store "Tropical Girl". It's a unique boutique with dresses, strawbags, hats and a whole lot more!

I'm looking forward to visiting all your shops on F'sted the last week of October. I'm bringing a group of 3 couples that are staying at Cottages b/t Sea. We'll make F'sted our base as we explore the island. See you in aout 8 weeks.

Adam,
Coming from Christiansted what is the best route into F'sted to Scubawest? Is there parking close? We will have a rentalcar & I don't really want to carry dive stuff very far.

Thank you,
Jim W
