The ferry is nicknamed "The Barf Barge" and they do issue barf bags. The ride can be extremely bouncy.

It just depends on the day. If you are at all prone to seasickness - take the plane. If it's a flat calm day the ferry isn't bad.

Curious...why are you asking? Are you planning to visit St. Thomas after you arrive here, or are you thinking of flying into St. Thomas and then taking a ferry over to STX on "moving day"?

The reason I ask is because you can't always count on the ferry actually running on schedule.

I was sick as a dog on the ferry coming back from STT a couple of weeks ago. I'd never had that level of motion sickness in my life. Most of the people that were on the ferry with me tried to sleep through it, but I couldn't.

this may see like a stupid question but can you take cars on the ferry? im moving to stx at the end of july and will be buying a car once i get there. just wondering if i should keep my search for one just to stx or if i could extend my search to stt and then ferry it over.

No cars are on the STT-STX ferry - there are some cargo services available to ship a car.

VI cargo ships from miami to stx, but i haven't really found anything from stx to st thomas. I know of a couple classmates at UVI that will be selling their cars at the end of semester when they return to the states so there should be a few extra cars on the market soon.

good luck!
Brianna
