I am now in the final stages of moving to STX . It looks like I will be moving about the 2nd week of Dec. Will be there for Christmas and celebrate my new life the right way with a verry Happy New Year as a citizen of STX. Got my bank acc. open and got my local address so all I need is a studio apt. and a good used car to get around in. Need both in the Christiansted area,. Any help will be greatly appericated. Rockportjohn from Rockport, Texas

Hi RockportJohn,

Congratulations on your pending move from a fellow Texan!!! I know how excited and happy you are as I am experiencing the same feelings. I'll be on STX by 8/25, which is coming up really soon. The days are just flashing by with all that I have to do before I go, both at work and at home.

I found a wonderful, though temporary, place to stay very close to the UVI campus yesterday, close enough for me to walk to work! On Monday I'm going to call the freight company and make the arrangements to ship my car anyway. It'll be nice to have it for exploring the island, for shopping, and for picking up all the friends who have promised to visit. :-))

If I can help you in any way once you get to STX, let me know via this message board. I don't know my local address yet, nor do I know my phone number at work, but we'll figure something out.

See you sooner than you think! The next few months will be a blur!

Kinsey

Rockport John & fellow readers,
How do you go about setting about a bank acct. before getting to STX. My fiance and I will be arriving in just under 3 weeks and would like to get a jump on as much as possible. Any advice or insight on the banks (or getting a local mailing address) would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks ~
Michelle

There is no real advantage to setting up up a banking arrangement before getting on island. We tried it ..several years ago and it was a waste of our time and energy.

Once you are on island...go into your ...
"financial institution of choice" and set up a relationship. Learn to talk to the people who will be helping you. learn to do what is necessary to have a "banking" relationship.

It is not magic...it is not about the internet. It is about "people" just as it was in small town America "years ago"... Golly isn't that nice...
