Finally making the move

After a half dozen trips to STT and tons of research (a bunch of reading on this message board, thanks so much) my wife and I are planning to make the move down. We are very excited but have a couple of questions. I am in sales and is a pharmacist. She has gone through the process of transferring her license to USVI and we are waiting for that to go through. We have a PMV scheduled for late April. From reading this message board (and from tons of looking ourselves) we have been finding it difficult to find employment opportunities online. We plan to make some person to person visits during the PMV next month but thought it could not hurt to reach out to the VI moving message board expert panel for some guidance and maybe a lead or two?? We know we love STT, we know it will be a huge change from life in the states and we are ready for it! The biggest missing piece of our puzzle is finding work.

Question 1: My wife currently works as a clinical pharmacist in a very large hospital here in the states and would like to do clinical work of some type in STT. I know there is a hospital on STT (and I know it is not very big). Any one know if they have on staff pharmacists in the hospital and how to go about landing that job!? Also, any idea if there is other clinical work? Nursing homes, home infusion, VA, etc. We have seen plenty of posts on this board about retail positions but not much about clinical work.

Question 2: I have been in outside sales for a large lumber company for 12 years and would love to transition into real estate sales in STT. Maybe start as administrative assistant to learn the ropes? Open / maintain property, etc. Any ideas how to to start down that road?

Thanks in advance for any direction you can give us. This board has been VERY helpful answering almost all of our other questions. Looking forward to joining you in sunny STT. It is cold here!!

I hear the cold part. Still freezing here in VT. As for real estate it certainly looks like a buyers market right now.

Have you checked the listings on this site:

http://pharmacyjobs.rxcareercenter.com/us_virgin_islands_pharmacy_jobs.cfm

A Walgreens is also under construction and opening very soon on St Thomas on a lot opposite the Tutu Park Mall.

It is real hard to land a job without being here. You should have done this on your pmv as well as finding a place to live.

Watch out as things that look good in the states may not look good here..

good luck

Bill we have our PMV scheduled for late April (next month) to house / job hunt in person. We where just hoping to get some direction or maybe a lead or two in our respective fields before we got to the island in April and starting "knocking on doors" so to speak. Just putting the feelers out!! Thanks for the help!

Just remember STT celebrates Carnival the last week of april - a lot of places will be closed and if your PMV coincides it may make a difference in who is available for interviews etc.

The last week of April is the absolute worst time to try and do any business here!
