Fire at CAHS

Sad morning here on campus, I feel heartbroken. Once again, vandals have managed to destroy classrooms on the Charlotte Amalie High School campus. I'm sitting here at my desk, in shock that this has happened. The teacher whose classroom was completely gutted has lost over 16 years worth of teaching materials, not to mention a computer center, her personal laptop, books, desks and chairs. We are all speculating over who could have done such a thing as there could be many suspects. The fire occurred in Building C which houses the 9th Graders, along with some Science classes. It's a shame when a small minority can dictate over the majority of students that want to learn and want to be here. Please keep our students and teachers in your thoughts today.

Suxanne,

I am so sorry for the students, staff, and parents of CAHS. It is so very unfortunate that there are yong people who are so angry among other factors with the world and themselves that they have to resort to such behavior and actions. There was a burglery at the Educational Complex in the Small Engine Repair Program many tools were taken and locks destroyed which now jeopardizes the ability to implement the program effectively. Again, I have experienced this type of thing back in the states as well. It just makes you ask yourself WHAT IS GOING ON WITH OUR YOUTH! How can we help that smaller group of those who are so destructive to themselves and to others. I know we (teachers, administrators, and other school employees) can not do it alone.

Thanks Melody, and it was great to hear your voice again. The students are pretty upset as well with the situation, hopefully they will dismiss school. We all feel very disoriented. The Governor just left the campus, we were all glad to see him here this morning.

SuzanneB,

Thank you so much for posting this. It is important to know everything that is happening in our community, including the very bad.

I am so sorry to hear that this happened. The students and teachers of CAHS are and will be in my thoughts.

If there is anything that we individual posters can do to help, please let us know.

Best,
Mell

Thanks Mell,
I think at this point they are still assessing the structural damage and the chance that classrooms on the ground level may have been flooded out from when they put the fire out . Unfortunately, there was a brand new computer lab right below so I'm really hoping that there is no damage to that room. One of the students just told me that TV2 is here now, so you will have to watch the news tonight. They just announced that students are to be dismissed for the day, but staff must stay.
