A friend on St. John has to leave island and they are looking for a good home for their dog. (she is heartbroken!!) This is Milo. He is a 4 year old, 120lb Rottweiler. Neutered, all shots are up to date. He likes other dogs and lived with 3 outdoor cats. He is such a sweetheart!!! He doesn't want to live tied to a tree. I would take him in a heartbeat if I didn't already have 2 100lb dogs 🙁 If you know anyone who is looking for a great companion please call Lisa and learn more about him. She is leaving island in three weeks and she is desperate to find Milo a home since the person who was going to take him backed out at the last minute.

I am looking for a big dog to add to our family. I called the number listed and they said it's the wrong number.
Do you have a different number?

I hope this doggie goes to a good person. It is very nice of you to help your friend. This is not the best place to abandon your pet.

Me too, and you are right, this is a very hard place to have to leave behind your friend. There are a couple of other people who are coming to meet him so I hope he finds a new home soon. Like I said, she is heartbroken, but she will not let just anyone take him. He needs to have a good home with responsible owners.

My first adopted dog is a really beautiful big brindle. When the previous owners couldn't make him into a fighter, they starved and beat him. He was in sad shape when he finally made it to the shelter. Just a sack of quivering bones. He didn't have an ounce of mean in him. It's just really sick what some people can do.

I have given the corrected phone number to good friends of mine here on STX. They called the original number and were "hung up on" because it was a wrong number. These people had 2 Rotweilers and just lost their 6 yr old 115# male to bone cancer. They still have a neutered 8yr old female rotweiler and are heartbroken with their recent loss. They love dogs and have a couple cats. They have a fenced in property and the dogs/cats go in and out of the house anytime they want.. So I have sent them an e-mail to call again in regards to Milo.

I cannot figure out how to edit my original post.... That was a big boo boo on the phone number. I'm sorry about that.

Pull up the post and look for the 'edit' prompt at the bottom. You can click 'save changes' when you're done.

The "edit" option disappears after 45(?) minutes.

"Report" the post and ask islander to pull it. Then repost the correct info and pictures. Linda

Thanks for the tech help. I couldn't 'edit' when I tried a couple days later. I contacted Islander to see if he can change it or delete the post and I will re-post 🙂

No, Milo has not found a home yet. There was a very interested family who took him for the weekend. It didn't work out because their other dog didn't like the situation. Their other dog was a severely neglected rescue dog, I guess he didn't want to share the attention. If you know anyone who might be interested, please have them call. Milo is running out of time.

i am sorry to hear it hasn't worked out for milo yet. it truely saddens me when someone adopts an animal and after 2/3 days or even a week says it didn't work out.no newly adopted animal or,child for that matter, will adjust to a new home and family in that short amount of time. it seems only fair to try alot of patience and work for a much longer period of time. a displaced animal will most likely be having feelings of loss of its previous owner. we adopted an abandoned and seriously injured dog and it took months for her to adjust and begin to trust us an our other pets. its just my opinion but i have seen this happen often and i just wish people would make a bigger commitment to try to make it work.please continue to let us know how it is going. thanks

Why can't she take the dog back to the states with her?

Well, since I don't really feel comfortable saying the specific reasons, I will tell you that she has very valid and legitimate reasons why she can't take him. It's so sad 🙁

And the people who had Milo over for the weekend were kind of just taking a "trial" visit with him. They just didn't know how their dog would act when they had another dog in his space. He's another big guy as well, and if there were trouble between the two of them, it would be very difficult to control the situation. I'm not going to fault them, and I'm glad they gave it a try.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Less than two weeks..... I soooooooooo want to bring him home! But, with a baby on the way any day, a 9 year old son, and two big dogs already, I know that it would not be the smartest thing to do. (this should read: My husband would kill me!!! :D)

I was just going to give an update this morning! I hadn't seen Milo in a week or so, and I was a little afraid to ask her because she was so emotional and it was just tearing her apart. When I asked her yesterday, she told me she found a nice couple in Coral Bay who have adopted Milo! I am SO glad to hear this!!!! Thanks everyone for taking the time to read this post and try to help him find a home. Looks like he will be living out the rest of his days with a great new family on St. John.
