Thanks! All these power outages fried my laptop, so "all" I have to do is figure out how to print it out from my iPhone. Thanks, though.

Good Evening.

I found this site and have just signed up. Read what has been said here and agree that the "right" thing was done about the 3 times DUI guy trying to get around the law. Don't need them on the road.

I have my own question now. I plan to move to the Virgin Islands by next year to finish out my retirement. I was wondering what are the requirements for a person who would like to drive say an electric scooter on the roads there.

Is this possible and what operator license, plates, and insurance would be needed. I have not found anything on the web yet. Been researching for two months now.

Thanks in advance for your helpful inputs.

No electric scooter or your retirement will swiftly end with a funeral.

cebu: To answer your question, I do not know if an electric scooter is "street legal" in the VI. There was a big hullabaloo when someone wanted to license an electric car. He had to fight city hall, but I believe finally was allowed to do so. I think the concern was if he could go fast enough on the hills.

On second reading of your post, are you asking about a mobility-type scooter? I have seen only one, but it is not licensed for the street, she drives on the sidewalk. On the other hand, there was a quad with a power wheelchair who drove down the middle of the road, LOL!

From the BMV website on Jan 17, 2012
It appears to conform to what was previously posted EXCEPT for the new notations at the bottom of the list.

Transferring a U.S. Driver's License

To obtain a Virgin Islands Drivers License, the Driver’s License Information sheet must be completely filled out with the BMV License Transfer Form. A valid unexpired driver’s license from the U.S. and/or U.S. jurisdiction must surrendered and have in their possession valid documents verifying legal status in the U.S. along with a social security card or one of the alternates:
(a) SSN W-2 Form
(b) SSA 1099 Form
(c) Non SSA-1099
(d) DD Form 214
(e) Pay stub with applicant’s name and SSN on it.
(f) Any Government issued document with the applicant’s full name and SSN on it.

The applicant’s valid driver’s license will be verified with the previous issuing State or jurisdiction. The driver then has to satisfy all fees imposed by the BMV and surrender their driver’s license. A Virgin Islands driver’s license will then be issued.
Transferring of Foreign Driver’s License

A valid unexpired driver’s license must be presented, along with all legal source documents and Social Security requirements noted above. Foreign license holder must take a written test and surrender their license in order to be issued a Virgin Islands driver’s license. The Bureau of Motor Vehicles reserves the right to verify license and to check for any infractions on license with issuing country.

Effective immediately applicants must bring in their driver's license and official driving record.
No Photocopies accepted.
