Getting a Pick Up Truck Cap to STX

I may soon need to buy a cap and a ladder rack for a pick up truck. It seems it would make sense to buy one in Florida, somehwere near Fort Lauderdale/Port Everglades, so I could have it delivered to and shipped here by VI Cargo. The ladder rack isn't much of a challenge. But getting a cap here in one piece might be.

Has anyone ever done such a thing? Bought a PU truck cap in the states and had it shipped to STX? I'd be interested in hearing who you bought from and how you shipped it down.

I have not shipped a truck cap but I did ship a 14 ft kayak.
It was wrapped in bubble wrap and VI Cargo did a outstanding job...Not a scatch
Give them a call

With VI Cargo, you pay by the cubic foot, and if it's really heavy (like cinder blocks) then you pay extra for the weight. Since a pickup truck cap is mostly air, then if you don't enclose it in a box or crate, then VI Cargo might charge a lot less than the boxed price, because they could stash stuff inside the cap. You could tape protective plastic sheeting and bubble-wrap so it conforms to the cap. Ask VI Cargo what they would charge for that kind of configuration, where the inside of the cap is available for other cargo, and ask if they would honor a big sign which says, “No heavy weight on me, please!”
