I talked my parents into letting me have a pet goat when I was a kid living in the country. (Pun intended) I ended up with 3 since the one I chose was, unknown at the time, preggers. They make great pets and followed the dog and I wherever we would go and were very amusing.
I remember 1 of the many cats I would bring home used to like to piggy back ride on mommy goat cassi. The kids were pixie and Dixie.
If I got lax in my care taking duties, my mom would say 2 words:
Goat stew!

I prepped it last night and turned on the slow cooker this morning.
Can't wait for dinner tonight!

Is that what you call trying to "get my goat?"

I keep telling the visionless people in the VI that we can create attractions based on what's here, but nobody I know sees the vision.

Somebody on one of the US Virgins should develop a goat attraction. Someone I was showing around on STT saw goats at Home Depot parking lot, and that was the high point of his vacation..

Most of the Caribbean promotes beaches, etc, but very few promote wildlife encounters.

St Thomas wildlife encounters, anyone? Only those with money to develop a project, pls. 🙂

And I have thought that someone should start a goat cheese business.

Lol! Love those chicken ideas. According to a post a few years ago, a visitor bought some black wild chickens to take back home. Thanks!

Grenada is hoping to make goat cheese an export product. I bought some last time I was there, and loved it. Don't know that I have tried it elsewhere, but wanted to try something new.

So many opportunities for goats. We're missing the goat. 🙂

Only if the petting zoo includes two hands around its scrawny little neck...

I'd like to introduce you to Cruzan Cowgirls, We run a Horse (animal really) Rescue we have 21 horses, 6 dogs, 5 cats, 2 goats, 1 donkey and 5 children.

we started out with maybe 15000 in seed money, drive, compassion and passion. We take teens from Grove and Williams Delight (and a couple from Arideas) and teach them natural horsemanship, compassionate care, and "modern" horse care techniques.. there are usually anywhere from 5-6 of these boys at our house on any given day. (We have had zero interest from the Islands girls, a lot of non-local girls come to help out as well, funny that it’s the girls from off island that are interested and the boys from on island)

we plan on doing a mobile petting zoo in the near future and have already been to a few events with our animals; we offer guided tours of the west end to help pay for the rescue and are considering opening a hotdog stand to do the same thing ( plus teach the voulenteers how to run a business, and employ them).

Sometimes the good things that are happening are just harder to find, and if they aren't there... you only have to look at the mirror to find out who can make it happen!

Better a petting zoo than a forever dolphin enslavement facility that coral world proposes.
