Well I'm biting the bullet and going to the dr. for a "flu"? Been down for two weeks and this week is terrible. Feel like I was run over. I don't want a dr. That just looks and dismisses me. I hate when I pay $$ for a two second evaluation. Any recommendation?

Hoping you'll be well soon. Two weeks is a long time to be miserable. You may have dengue, so it's best to get a confirmed diagnosis if possible.

Well it all started when I went to Phoenix two weeks ago for my birthday... I couldn't talk my family out of it I had to go lol. As soon as I got on the plane I noticed that my nose went crazy I thought maybe it was just like the chemicals that they use to clean the plane. When we got off the plane in Phoenix I basically couldn't breath through my nose and the Phoenix air is horrendous. I figured it was a head cold or maybe just allergies because I felt physically okay. The second I got back home I got hit with a high fever and general overall can't move and feel like crap. I don't think it's dengue hopefully not I just made an appointment for tomorrow. I think it's just a really really really nasty flu I haven't had a bad flu in about seven years. Also surprising is I used to rebound pretty quick I used to get strep, tonsillitis or bronchitis almost every year until I was about 25 and I haven't really been sick since then. All I know right now is that I'm sick of being sick.

I second this. I find Dr. Hartshorn himself to be a little distant and not the type of doctor I'd choose in the states, but his office is super friendly and efficient.

I would highly recommend Dr. Mark Livingston. His office is in the Al Cohen center on Raphune hill. (340) 715-0234. My wife sees Dr. Carolyn Jones, whose office is right next door. Good luck!

Well today I'm finally feeling better. Must have just been the true flu. I thought I've had the "flu" before but I guess not because I've never been so run down before. Bronchitis or strep throat makes the flu look like a friggin spa day!! I've been taking a ton of stuff (mostly vitamins and such) and made my homemade chicken soup which is usually the cure all with lots of lemon and cilantro and jalapeños. Didn't do squat this time lol. I've been taking ibuprofen for my fever and the pain but last night said screw it and let the fever do it's job. 102-3 for 5 hours last night. Looks like it did the trick, I actually got off the couch today and don't need to be bundled up in a blanket. Still feel a bit sore and run down but I don't want to cry like a little sissy baby every hour anymore lol. Ugh I don't wish that bug on anyone. Looking forward to getting in the water soon - it's been over two weeks!!! :~O

OP. what you've gone through isn't at all uncommon. Judging from previous posts, you're interacting with visitors from all over the US and the world in general. "Flu shots are regularly available here every year at low or no cost but they can only give you immunity from the current strains prevalent and can't keep up with or protect you from all the varietals.

I got sick with the 'flu several times in my first years here but (as if this is a cure-all!) I've successfully managed to NOT succumb in 20 years now (16 of which I was working in very close proximity to visitors).

Maybe not much help at all but, if you're planning on sticking around, you might think about getting a 'flu shot come next season. From all accounts they can save you from the effects of the current strains but also create at least a partial barrier to symptoms of other strains.

Good advice OT. I will be getting one next season. I think this one came from the disgusting airplanes when I went stateside and got me thinking about how contaminated the planes are. I will also be wearing a mask when I travel, I saw a few in the airport wearing them. I now think it's a good idea regardless how silly it looks.
