Keep an eye on this FB page as well. It's a general buy and sell site for STX.

Good Luck westonkaley.

Plenty of people ride scooters and mopeds here on STX. You will have to be careful of the potholes in some areas but you'll learn where the big ones are quickly.

There is not a rash of people on scooters getting run over or disappearing into some abyss.

You could not pay me enough to ride a scooter among all the idiot drivers on these islands.
Good Luck!

How many years experience do you have driving a scooter or motorcycle?

I find most of the drivers here on STX to be much better than drivers back in the states where I lived. They may not use their turn signals too often or have working brake lights but they're not inconsiderate or bad drivers per se. Some of the intersections would take an hour to get out of from a side street if it wasn't for all the drivers that will stop and let people pass across or get out from that side street. I know for sure that never happened where I lived before on a consistent basis. There are always a few that drive aggressively or without a clue but they are few here when compared to just about every other place I've driven.

STX has a flatter terrain than STT so maybe he may survive driving a scooter or moped. I've just seen so many accidents involving rental mopeds on STT that I, personally, wouldn't advise it. Maybe STX has better drivers as well but from personal experience, I certainly can attest to the multitude of moron drivers on STT roads.

Seeing a drunk person that has never ridden a motorcycle before is not indicative of the norm.

Not drunk moped drivers. Just those inexperienced so with our steep winding roads, sharp corners, the potholes, the lack of sidewalks, lack of guardrails and other impediments that comes with driving locally, including the idiot drivers that drive while yakking on a cell phone and pay absolutely no attention to stop signs or which side of the road they are on.

My vehicle of choice would be a tank with a turret gun.

Up until I arrived here I had roughly 35 years on a motorcycle. I rode dirt bikes before I was old enough to get a license.

Flatter roads on STX just means they'll be going faster when they run you over.

I started at 11, was racing motocross at 15. Got my motorcycle (street) license at 15. Still have my Bultaco from the high school years. I'm a 3rd generation rider. All 3 generations on STX.

Bultaco is a name I have not heard in a while. Great bike. The name does sound like a slang for calling someone out though.:-)

Cruzan Scooters down near Boardwalk on Queen Cross Street. Phil and Sandi rent and sell new scooters. They did have Harley's that were brought here for tours that didn't work out. They've sold all them but, I think owner has one left he'll sell. A friend bought a scooter from Phill when he first arrived and loved it. We lived on a major crappy road and steep, steep hill and he came up it with no problems.
