They had created a home for themselves in our old septic tank - one of the worst experiences in my life - they chase far further than the usual honey bee.

There was an established nest of very agressive bees near what is now Contessa's castle around1970, so they have been around for decades, and do take up residence. They were in a hole in a root of a turpentine tree that grew by the edge of the road, right about shoulder height. Those things would chase about a quarter mile and stung like CRAZY!

well, if you see a family walking around in beekeepers clothing you know who it is. i didn't realize there was such a plethora of aggressive stinging insects here. in fact, this is the first time since October that i have had any issue with wasps, which was a huge change from my former home in Texas...where it seemed hornets, wasps and yellow jackets were thick as thieves the minute you walked from the front door.

on a related note, i read that the crazy ants are incredibly effective predators. if they keep the centipedes from my door they can run wild all they like!

I have seen two of the Jack Spaniel wasps since I moved here last fall. However the mosquitos have currently formed squadrons around our house.
