Good Day All!

This question may seem silly to the male posters on the board, but I think the ladies will understand. I will be moving to STT in August and was wondering which salons those of you already living on island would recommend for hair and nail services.

Thanks!

For hair, I like Monica's in Crown Bay Marina. Heather there is fantastic. I've also heard great things about Philip Stern's in the Royal Dane Mall but have never been myself.

There are a few places to get your nails done, but I don't have any personal recommendations.

Monica's is good and inexpensive (as far as these things go)
Philip Sturm is downtown, small, but good.
Your other options (that I know of) are the Ritz Carlton (spendy, sometimes hard to get in), Journeys Spa at the Wyndham Sugar Bay, and Marriott Frenchman's Reef.

In my experience, the best pedis are at Oasis in Red Hook or Marriott Frenchman's Reef. I've had good and bad luck at the Ritz.

This all depends on what you're looking for, too.
Do you want artificial nails? Mani? Pedi?
What type of hair do you have?
Does it matter to you if a place is "smelly" with nailpolish?
Are you looking for upscale or cheap and chipper?

Best,

LR

Loyal Reader,

Thanks for the reply. To answer your questions:

Mani and Pedi
My hair is short and curly--am able to blowdry it straight on "good hair days" here in NY--don't anticipate doing that on STT
Don't mind if the place smells like nail polish as long as it's clean and the staff is friendly
Looking for anywhere inbetween middle of the road and upscale; definitely not cheap and chipper

If you are caucasian, there is a place in Buccaneer Mall called JUST CUTS and they also do nails. It caters to an almost exclusively local white clientel and some cruise line workers. Not that they discriminate, but I never see local colored folks, except Hindi, get their hair done there. I just assume there are different skills for different types of hair... I really don't know. Check it out and see for yourself.

Crablegs,

You are the second person I know to recommend Heather at Monica's.

A server at a restaurant that my husband and I really enjoy (Indigo) has THE CUTEST hairstyle, and she goes to Heather also. After seeing this second recommendation, I made an appointment for myself for late next week.

Thanks for posting this info :)!
