Lizard, I still live the life and do most of my own work as well. I have done top ends on Shovel's cam swaps on Evo's. This new girl is still under extended warranty.

However I did just install a Power Commander V with the auto tune modules. I highly recommend a company by the name of Fuel Moto USA. Their maps for this fuel injected stuff is as good if not better than the race tuner I have on the bike. You just ride it around for a few days that gives the new wide band O2 sensors time to adjust. The factory stuff is a narrow band and does not allow as much adjustment. You have to have them with the auto tune.

About every 50-75 miles I simply plug in my lap top with a USB cord, tell the Power Commander V to except the auto tune fuel trim tables which automatically updates the map. Then turn on the ignition and send the map, verify and turn off the ignition. It will do a lot more but it just keeps getting better and better with auto tune. What this thing buys you is,never having to go back to the Dyno if you do head swaps or cams. It's pretty cool, to not be afraid of fuel injection anymore.

Betty, I am typing this post on the lap top I use on my bike. I understand your point about being on Island with a bike. But the fact remains I would be a full time resident on Island. I haven't figured out how to make that much money yet. If I do go with St Croix it will be roiling the dice of my life and yes I always survive.

Lizard we have talked in the distant past as a matter of fact the last time I was on Island you had to run off to the VA I think. Would you by chance be a Viet Nam era Vet. More to the point a Jarhead ?

I have met a new couple on the board here, Hi Lorisue. We plan on meeting when we arrive this season. Lizard,Betty are you in.

Chockman I stand corrected on some of the technical aspects of later model hogs.

Still don't like the damned noise some riders think it their right to inflict upon others.
Your right to swing your fist about madly stops at the end of my nose - or ears. Safety? Are you telling me you REALLY don't get off scaring the crap out of people? Go ahead you can admit it. None of us are perfect LOL.

As for turn and burn I sold my MR2 as I know it's not a good island car but boy do I miss the gees in the turns!

We have 4 little doggies so they fit and have room to run and chase. The expiration date draws near on two of them and they won't be replaced. A big dog can be a problem let alone several. Sorry about the one not looking to good. Just like our children - at least to dog people.

As ar as livin on de boat you would be surprised at how much stuff most people have in their lives they don't need or even really want.
I have learned our possessions own us not the other way around. Mostly it's Madison Ave telling you if only you had a new (inset thingy here) your life would be wonderful and the chicks will throw themselves at you ....

Lizard, I still have the occasion to work with some Army SF Folks. They are now retired but are well known in that community. Rock solid folks you would not hesitate to go down with.

I was just a peace time Jarhead,82-86 . I guess our generations were a lot alike. These Freaking new kids we get now days don't have respect for anything . Big brother just hands it out because they say they deserve it. Forget about earning it,it is all about me,me,me . The Obama generation, I always was a few years behind the times.

24 years of Federal Service these days. I think I want to work for myself. And as us Jarheads always said OOORAH . I wonder if Obama will try to push the Marine Corp under the Army. People have discussed it for years ?

"This entire conversation is so telling of the human experience.

When people have nothing to argue about, they will find something new to argue about."

lol...come on...Isn't your post just trying to incite a new argument? Its not like we're children going to meekly take being insulted. This is a discussion board all people do is discuss their opinions.

Bikes fall apart quicker here, if you're handy then well and good. You'll be able to deal with it. If you're not an experienced rider don't bring it. If you're going to use it for your main mode of transportation be prepared to arrive everywhere hot and sweaty or to risk death by not wearing protective gear. And don't forget about getting rained on all year round. Those are the main points I was making. Lizard and Chockman seem very experienced and handy. But I don't think the average person thinking about relocating here is at all. Its just part of the fantasy.

Betty, all excellent points. Although I find I'm generally less hot-n-sweaty riding the bike than I am driving a Jeep with no a/c! 🙂

No carbs on mine anymore. I re jet or remap as we call it now days with a laptop. My set up is pretty trick and self sustaining. I noticed that a majority of vehicles on Island look a whole lot better today than they did in the 70's. I don't think it matters what you try to use to keep your chrome looking good and pit free, the secret will be routine maintenance and fresh water baths, forget about riding one on a beach, like you see in Florida all the time. Wash and apply, wash and apply, wash again and apply again.

Mine gets wiped down, dusted bugs removed on a daily basis,if it is going to look good it will take work . The salt air will eat one up. I saw the pitting in ST Thomas on a Fat Boy,it is just the nature of the Island. But I would recommend alloy wheels that are painted,or have the ones you have clear coated really well.
