Hello all,

Had another great PMV in May, well other than a few massive rain storms, its been a long time since I've seen rain like that (pretty awesome). I'm looking into working in research for the island. I currently work on mosquito's and have found some info on similar work on the islands.

http://www.healthvi.org/programs/index.html

Does anyone have any contacts or know any info on jobs for this down there? It would help in my move.

Thanks in advance,
Jeff

Would love it if you could just kill off all the mosquitoes here...

I wasn't sure what you were asking. Are you wanting a job exterminating mosquitos? Yes, that is in the Health Department's purview, but I don't know anything about their program. Occasionally they announce they are going to fog, but I have never actually seen them in action. You would have to go talk, in person, to someone in Health. If you are an exterminator, there are a good number of companies that do all sorts of bugs... My favorite name is "Professional Killers."

I'm looking specifically at research on how to combat the little terrors. I saw some information on research on Dengue, which is something I would love to study.

So you want a job doing research? I am fairly sure the Health Department doesn't do research. That is probably through the CDC in Puerto Rico or something. You might look through the UVI catalogue and see if there is anything there, but again, I have never heard of any mosquito research done here.

A friend of mine did research on ticks, a serious problem on deer, for the Feds on a site at the corner of East Airport Road and Centerline. He came here yearly for a long time but with budget cuts they stopped that program about five years ago. He said there are no plans to renew the program on St. Croix.

*-) had to change to "East Airport Road"
