Health Insurance

I know many young folks deem themselves indestructible and head to paradise with little to no thought about insurance. Yea I was young too once and thought the same thing. I now have a son on the island (STT) working as a mate. He had a temporary policy in the states that is expiring, so dad thinks it is a good thing to get another policy.

It is my understanding that the hospital in STT only has a direct relationship with Cigna Insurance.

Can anybody give me a email or phone number of Cigna agent on the island. Or any advice what they may be doing in regards to health insurance.

Thanks

TomB: Cigna is the VI government insurance, I don't believe you can buy it otherwise. There are several other health insurers- United Health Care is one. You might try calling one of the insurance companies like Tunick 340-776-7000 or TOPA 340-777-8844. And for sure talk to MASA about air evacuation insurance. They just moved, but their old number is 340-777-8580. Be sure to ask about the fine print- the generic policy only flies him to the closest place that has the services needed (usually Puerto Rico), but there is an upgrade that will fly him anywhere. You are a good dad. Most young people do not think about this possibility, being bulletproof.

P.S. I know physicians here who will not take stateside insurance, so it is best to get something local.

Thanks for the leads. He has been there for 6 months and currently does have a gap health insurance in the states that covers him, but that will expire in a couple months. By the way he is not bulletproof. He has had to use it twice.

Dad is a firm believer that nothing good happens in Red Hook after midnight.

thanks again
