Hi Virgin Island Locals and anyone who can help me,

I am a 21 year old student/bartender planning on relocating to St-Thomas (although it is not set in stone that this is the Island I have decided on). Me and a friend are planning the move for March "05", and have arranged to visit for two weeks in December. ANY and ALL information would be helpful for me since I am just starting out doing research. Jobs, and appartments are key. We are both looking to work as bartenders, or in food service as cocktail servers or waitresses. We are young so we are not looking for fancy living. But are also looking to live in a safe area by the beach.
I have posted on another message board and was told to post here and that you all would be helpful.

I would really appreciate an e-mail from anyone who would be willing to give me some information.

Im also curious about cell phones, banks, and crime on the islands...

Thanks ahead of time,
Chandra

Chandra,

When you get on the island you should have no problem finding a job. I personally like the east end of the island and find it safe. There are plenty of places to work too. Cell phones, Cingular or Sprint and maybe Virgin now. Banks, Banco Popular is good, haven't dealt with the others. Crime happens, you just need to be careful of where you go. Just like any city. Apartments will be available, though they may not be plentiful in March, there will be some available. How long do you plan on staying? Just make sure to bring enough money so you can get a good start. Plan on buying a car it's worth it and makes life much easier. Good Luck. See you in December.

Matt

chandra, im also planning to relocate to the island for a few months with one of my friends...we are going through the same thing we're going down in september, we're also young not looking for fancy living... but what we have found that is really great for first moving down there... check out the villa fairview...its a short term rental with single bedrooms that have their owns baths and a main kitchen...deffinately check it out, the rent is fairly cheap and includes a lot. its great while your looking around for some place more perminent!
good luck!
