I've never heard of them here, and I imagine offering such a thing here would be economically unfeasible for a company.

None here but I have thought it would be a great thing to have ever since I moved here. I am sure they would be economically unfeasible as stated previously.

IMHO and experience, third party home owners' warranties are more of a marketing device for sellers than a useful tool for buyers. They sometimes contain provisions that require owners to use trades persons of the company's choosing, and are often subject to *many* exclusions.

Worked out great for me when my a/c broke in the house we had in Palm Springs. It was summer and they came out the next day and replaced it.

Hmm, maybe a new business idea, guess you would have to charge double as stuff breaks there doubly? 🙂

Probably alot more then doubly. What isoldola said about there being no way to make money off of it IMO is true. Having a house here is expensive, especially if you decide on the fixer or old variety, which is what most of them are. Maintenance issue here are MUCH higher IMO due to the climate. Salt destroys everything. I would have loved a warranty but I probably would have bankrupt the company during the term of my policy.
