Hello to all! I was wondering if anyone could let me know the laws on homeschooling in the VI. What do they require of the children and the parents? These things vary quite a bit from state to state. Also any information on clubs or organizations for homeschoolers would be appreciated. Thank you!

Here is a link to the Vi Home schooling association. Go to the get started link and there is a legal section half way down.

You are welcome. I found this site very informative. Many homeschooling sites are not as well rounded. Very interesting materials on teaching styles. Look at the other link with special notices. Congress is trying to pass a new law which could make homeschooling more difficult. Us mainlander might be able to put a damper on that one wile still here.

Hello Iris! Thank you for all the information. I was wondering if you live there now and homeschool. I was reading the leagle section and I was wondering if you could let me know what "The Department of Education will conduct a semi-annual Portfolio Review" means. I tried emailing the woman in St.Thomas listed but the address has changed. Does it mean that I will need to submit paperwork to the board or do they come out and interview the kids? Please feel free to email me directly. Thank you!

No, I am still on the mainland. I would thing the portfolio review is your log book of all the things you have been teaching your children.

I daubt they would interview the children so.
