I work very close to Hovensa and their siren has been going off for about an hour now. Guess there's a vapor cloud (more than normal) that's caused enough concern to close down surrounding traffic. Supposedly the winds will take it west. So, don't go west 😉

I had heard they were doing a test emergency today, which in all good sense they should make public

Well, it's all done now. They usually run a test on Wednesday, but we were surprised by the Tuesday alarm. I hope it was just a test!

Tests of the sirens occur every Wed. at 12:15. This morning an evacuation drill was ran without the sirens afterwards the vapor cloud siren (a long steady tone versus the short blasts of the fire alarm) was activated due to a release. The event did not create any detectable concentrations of hazardous vapors beyond the Hovensa fenceline, in fact concentrations were minor even ten yards downwind of the affected unit.
