I mean is it safe? Is it treated or just rain water. I am weary about it. We have all the water we like in South Carolina. Will I have to ration water?

Safe.
Don't be weary over 100,000 people drink bottled water here - rain water through filters.
I had all the water I could drink from the tap back in the states too.
Ration? Why? Might want to take an island shower - meaning get wet, turn off the water, soap up, rinse off. Saving water in the cistern. But rationing water to drink - not unless there is a disaster and we have just today squeeked by one.

Toria,
Don't worry. My wife and I have drunk the water from the cistern for over a year now. It's fine. Water rationing is not necessary. Water awareness is. It's amazing how quickly you see how wasteful your stateside guests really are.

Yes, I suspect you do have all the water you need in South Carolina right now. I always drink cistern water. I figure if it isn't some weird color and smells alright, it's probably safe. I think you'll find that you'll very quickly learn how to use as little water as possible. Every time you turn on a tap, conservation is in the back of your mind.
