I , too, was single when I made the trip (over 7 years ago! How time flies!), and the $7,000 that I brought was just the right amount. Remember, you will need first, last and security for your apartment, a car, and housing until you find a place. Plus food and entertainment. 7 was just perfect. I'm sure it can be done with less...and more couldn't hurt! Haha! But wy stress yourself? That's why you are coming here, right?

Jon: My rule of thumb is at least 3 months cushion, for more conservative folks 6 months. That means enough to keep yourself going in a B&B or guest house until you find a place (hard to tell how long- depends on your luck and how picky you are), 1st/last/security (as Marty mentioned), WAPA deposit, phone deposit, computer connection, etc., food and fun (all work and no play, y'know! 🙂 ), all the little things that you didn't think of.. $$$ It goes very quickly.

If you work with adolescents, you might give Seaview Adolescent unit a call- can't find the number right now, but you can try 340-777-3303 and see if they can transfer you.
