Getting very close to landing a job and I have done the research and math. I have heard the number $10,000 if you are coming here without a job not including shipping a car. I have a job lined up. So far I have figured the total move will cost me around $4000.

$1400 to ship my car.
$500 Airfare
$1400 First/Last Months rent. Asumming I find a place around $700 a month
$700 For all the fees to get my car registered and pay taxes.

Am I missing anything?

You might have some initial living expenses and other unexpected expenses until you get your first paycheck. Bring extra dough if you can.

Deposits for utilities and cable. Stocking your kitchen or eating out. Daily transportation expenses. Entertainment. Insurance. Clothing if you don't already live in warm climate.

$700 is cheap for a rental you would be comfortable in. Also, it may be first/last/one month's security. I would plan on $3,000 for rent, up front.

IMO $4,000 will be cutting it very close.

The car insurance alone could be $1,500 or more up front. When we insured our vehicles in November for a year, it was over $3,500 for full coverage with a $500 deductible, and they don't do monthly payment plans.

I agree with Linda J. Let me know if you find a nice place for $700. :@)

I'm a fairly frugal guy living alone, and my electric bill is about $240/month, and my water bill is about $270.

Do a scenario budget (best case, middle, and worst case) and add about 20% for contingencies.
