How do you cancel phone service without the 175 dollar fee? i mean techically i wont have a proof of address change until i am settled into an apartment. Also, verizon is claiming they serve USVI and puerto rico...anyone had any luck battling them (I am not moving for awhile but i need to buy a new phone now and would rather just switch to cingular now before I have to buy ANOTHER verizon phone)

Meg,

When I've looked into canceling my Verizon service, I got pretty lucky because my Mom also has Verizon, but her contract expired a while ago. Verizon said if she was willing to take over my contract, I wouldn't get charged. So if you know anyone with Verizon whose contract is expired, this might work for you.

Also, my Verizon phone had no service in St. Thomas when I was there in January.

When I moved down here I showed them a copy of my lease agreement. You can easily whip something up and fake it. If you need help let me know.

company letter head and them saying you were recently hired for them with any start date. Make it up but at least use a real location or use a friend in town to verify address change and date of hire. I doubt the last part is necessary but you never know.

That is what I did. I am clear of any cancellation fees

I was on STT last August and my Verizon worked just fine too good actually, work followed me down! I was on STX and it worked fine there too. They did charge me .40 per minute for roaming.
